I was NOT expecting the flashback arc to reach an initial conclusion this week but we have set up SO MANY THINGS this episode! A few things are for certain:
Each character has SO much potential!
The game of Kurata is definitely more complicated than I thought!
These three are going to just send me over the moon!
I love them all already so much and we've barely gotten started!

YES! This episode was the nail in the coffin of being hooked for me as well! The characterization is so good and these three with their developing relationship is just adorable! There is DEFINITELY competition with Arata vs. Taichi and I’m curious what this show will do with it! The hat moment with Taichi and Arata definitely drives home (besides the ship) how they can be friends while still rivals. But yes, it’s what makes it hard to pick which if you were to ship with Chihaya because they are VERY different people. I love Chihaya’s sunshine disposition! It gives Luffy and gives Sawamura from Ace of the Diamond for me! I don’t blame you for being a Taichi fan girl - just wait until episode 4 for me! I definitely am looking forward to learning more about Karuta as we go! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

2025-04-16 15:15:39 +0000 UTCOkay, it's official, I'm hooked with this anime, and I'm really enjoying and liking the characters. While I still don't understand Karuta as a sport, well, that won't stop me from enjoying the show in general; and, well, I can appreciate the way that Karuta seems to involve a lot more strategizing than I was expecting out of it. The friendship we see with Taichi, Arata, and Chihaya is *adorable* and, you're so right, now I kind of just want them all to acknowledge they each have two hands to perfectly hold both of the others and just make it work like that XD Alright, taking the shipper googles off, I do love, so freaking much, how even though Taichi is still low-key competiting with Arata he is stil his friend as well. He worries about Arata not having a snow hat and put his over his head (after the tournament, I mean), and asks about his ailing grandfather. It's really nice that both of those things are allowed to interact and mingle in a very healthy way. At this point, I think Taichi really respects Arata as well, and is impressed by him, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he wants Chihaya's attention, or that they are such very different people. Chihaya is such an impulssive, passionate ball of sunshine, I really like her. She puts 110% into the things she finds valuable and that is admirable. Truly, she is just super endearing. So far, even through it all, I remain a Taichi fangirl *lol* but I can't wait to see where these three kids will end up on.
