Me too! I’m super invested in all three of these characters so far! Ooohhhh, the Jean from AOT comparison? Now, hold on, you’re gonna get me all excited about him even more hahaha! And yes, Chihaya is the most precious bena and must be protected! She’s a whirlwind of chaos! I love how her positivity becomes infectious! MAIN CHARACTER VIBES! And yeah, I was not expecting the amount of strategy we’re already getting with Karuta - I’ll be interested to see how they build on that in future episodes, though! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

Exactly, and that is probably the most frustrating, when parents are unaware of how their words and actions affect their children. But still, there are a lot of things that even me - who does not have kids - can look at and go, "Wow, that's not good parenting." Thank you for the comment!

Alright, I'm getting invested in this childhood friendship story *lol* Look, I'm a Taichi girly here, he reminds me *so much* of Jean from AoT that I can't help but love him, but, gosh, it was hard watching what he did in this episode. He was being genuinely mean, but by the end you get it, seeing how his mom puts such pressure on him to be the best and all. I'm glad he did give the glasses back, at the very least. Chihaya is... truly a precious bean. I love how she just blazes into the room, dishevel and out of breath, just deciding that she'll replace Arata in the tournament. Her energy is very contagious. Something I found interesting, was how, yes, the rest of the class was ignoring Chihaya at the beginning of the episode, but when she started playing all her friends started cheering for her. At the end of the day, these are kids that have being friends for years, and most little kids are not mean, just easily convinced to do what the group will do. You know what, Karuta being a game where you can implement strategies is not something I was expecting. Like, Chihaya just moving all the cards in the area that the correct one was, or, apparently, Taichi moving the place of the cards, which he doesn't get call out about so I'm assuming it's acceptable. I don't know, I just wasn't expecting for the game to be so flexible.

I love how well written this anime is. Both moms say pretty hurtful things to their kids, but they're not trying to be mean, they probably don't even realize it. Chihaya's mom is just excited about a great opportunity for her oldest daughter. Taichi's mom is actually trying to be supportive. To her, losing in Karuta is the equivalent of losing at bingo, when her son is really good at soccer and other things.
