The Apothecary Diaries Season 2: Episode 12 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

 *FROGGY HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

Well...ahem...who knew FROGS would play such a role in this series?!

Jinshi tries to tell MaoMao the truth about himself, MaoMao tries to distance herself from said truth, and amidst the chaos, the "hunt" for the would-be assassins is underway! This episode took some turns I did NOT expect but what an episode!

The Apothecary Diaries Season 2: Episode 12 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

I can only imagine how long y’all have waited! It definitely was worth it but man…we’re going there, aren’t we?! I definitely am going to talk about Jinshi’s real name in a future episode but that is so pretty! It sounds really elegant as well! That’s really cool info you shared, so thank you for that and the comment!

MaoMao taking the ox Bezoar (shaped like balls) and rubbing it happily to her face made me so sad for Jinshi 😂😂 his frog and balls on the other hand were mistreated, grabbed and and even insulted by MaoMao 😛😛

Be Happy

I have been highly anticipation this whole frog scene and the anime did not disappoint! 😍 This whole scene between Maomao and Jinshi is also why I screamed at my laptop at the end of Episode 11 for them leaving us there. Guess the anime chose to cockblock us last episode in anticipation for all the times Jinshi got blocked this one 🤣 I gotta say I just adore the moment between Jinshi and Maomao arguing over the size of his "frog". Like Maomao says later, in that moment they're both being so much more natural and letting their childish sides come to the forefront. The composition of the scene also visually has Maomao and Jinshi on an equal level. In that moment they aren't their status or position within society/the Imperial Palace; they are simply two teenagers being allowed to be teenagers. Now I have seen some comments about people being uncomfortable with the way Jinshi got on top of Maomao, and leaned in close to her (some I dismiss because they come from the same people that take issue with their "age difference", forgetting that Jinshi is only a little older than Maomao). As for the rest I can understand how it could be viewed through such a lens that would make someone uncomfortable. For me, because he moves her so slowly, and moves towards her so slowly, he's giving her time to make her decision on if she should stop him (whether that be verbally or physically, as Maomao considers). But Maomao does neither. She even closes her mouth rather than speaking up. I also feel like at first it's Jinshi almost daring Maomao to continue her insistence about his "frog", and then once in that position his feelings step in and he forgets the main reasoning behind why he's on top of her like that. Jinshi likely wouldn't agree with me, but I think Lihaku and the dog should each get MVP for this episode 😆 Two good boys 🥰 I facepalmed so hard at Maomao thinking Jinshi was just angry for the analysis in size she made of his "frog". Poor Jinshi was trying to finally tell her something pretty serious, and letting her more into his small circle of trust, and she just tore down all his attempts to talk about who he truly is. I do get how in denial Maomao is about so much, but this is the time that when reading it I had to grab my pillow and scream because she frustrated me so much and I couldn't physically shake her 😅 I love the way they reveal Lihaku is the one that approached Basen with the bloody cloth. It really leads you to at first think this is part of the assassins' plan, or an entirely different plan. But the moment Lihaku is revealed to us the audience we know that this is just some secret plan made with Jinshi. Lihaku gagging the assassin immediately upon restraining him is likely for two reasons. One, so as he doesn't shout out and alert any of his companions, giving them the possible chance of fleeing. And two, in stories I've read based in Japan, China or Korea a common way assassins "avoid capture" is through killing themselves by biting off their tongue. I have seen it appear a few times in more modern stories, but it is a trope that appears more frequently in historical ones. Maomao: The dog really doesn't like you. Romania: What a great judge of character! Honestly I would be more trusting of a lot of dog's judgement of people than humans, even my own judgement. But not all dogs. I know some that are just too friendly and trusting, and others that can be easily bought in the form of treats or food 😂 Tara can be won over with food or scratches but if the person was to suddenly become aggressive (vocally or physically) then she'd immediately go into protect mode. So I definitely trust her opinion of people to a certain degree 😆 I love the historical detail of the design of the feifa having metal parts to create the spark, rather than the older designs that had a fuse that had to be physically lit. When I first came across the term though it did send me on a research dive to see if the term related to a specific type of gun, but no. I believe the term is just for this story alone. So now I can safely say that Jinshi was invited to this little hunt as the Crown Prince. Jinshi the eunuch was also invited, but as Jinshi can't be two people at once Gaoshun goes in Jinshi's place while Jinshi is there as the Crown Prince. This little tidbit definitely helps explain why both Jinshi and Gaoshun are there as guests of Shishou. It also explains Poor Basen though. He didn't really know what was going on at all, and he wasn't the most composed at times because of that. But then to be lambasted by his Dad in Gaoshun's thoughts is just adding salt to the wound 🥺 Learning about Maomao as a baby is so painful 😢 It hurts to think of her being neglected in such a way, and the long term effect that has had on her. I can understand why the courtesans were unable to care for her when they had customers, but it does make me question why none of the younger girls (who weren't trained enough to have customers of their own or old enough yet to join their older sisters with their customers to learn how to serve them) couldn't have cared for Maomao during these times. And then the show has to go and make me laugh at the juxtaposition between what Maomao says and thinks. Like she gives you all these soft feelings with how she says Jinshi-sama will always be Jinshi-sama to her. But her follow-up crude thoughts just destroy the sweetness of that moment and make me burst out laughing 🤣 But it is very fitting of Maomao to think in that manner. Makes me think back to Season 1 when she was discussing Lakan with Jinshi and Gaoshun, and she crudely phrased how Lakan isn't her Dad ("he was able to land that shot") and Jinshi pulled her on the way she phrased it 😆 I was anticipating this scene of Jinshi giving Maomao the ox bezoars since your reaction to Gaoshun giving her the bear gall bladder on Jinshi's behalf and your comment regarding Jinshi not being present to see her reaction. Ask and you shall receive. Poor Jinshi stopped functioning at seeing her glowing with happiness 😂 For the naming I believe its down to how certain kanji are pronounced in Japanese versus Chinese. There is overlap with certain kanji and their pronunciation in the two languages, but then there are some that differ a lot. It's why if you ever watch the Japanese dub of any of the donghua you've seen the characters sometimes have different names. For example, in the Japanese dub of Mo Dao Zu Shi Lan Wangji becomes Ran Bouki, and his title, Hanguang-Jun, becomes Gankou-Kun; Wei Wuxian becomes Gi Musen, while his title, Yiling Laozu, becomes Iryou Rouso. Interesting conjecture on Shishou this episode and his possible involvement 🤔 This show loves to give you mystery! The ox bezoars really are like a confession gift from Jinshi 🥺 But I do have to laugh at him giving Maomao ball-shaped objects she rubs against her face the same day as her having fondled his "frog" 😏😂 Definitely a Lakan statement from Maomao with that last comment regarding making Jinshi a eunuch if it causes her trouble. As much as she denies him being her father, he's definitely contributed a little to what her personality can be like 😆

Anime Annie

I HAD BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FROG SCENE EVER SINCE I READ THE MANGA!!! As expected, the frog scene did not disappoint. 😌 Watching the first part of the episode made me think, CAN THIS REALLY BE AIRED ON NATIONAL TV?! Haha, I was really excited to see your reaction to this episode! 😂 About Jinshi’s real name: 華瑞月. The Chinese pronunciation is Huá Ruì Yuè, while Ka Zuigetsu (か Ka ずい Zui げつ Getsu or Tsuki) is simply the Japanese pronunciation of the kanji. 月 also means "moon" in both Chinese and Japanese, hence "Moon Prince," as Gaoshun refers to Jinshi in the episode. I really like his name, it just sounds so elegant in Chinese haha. Maybe it is because I have read so many ancient Chinese novels with repetitive names that this one feels so simple yet pleasant to hear. I prefer the Chinese pronunciation, probably also because it is my second language and I am more used to it that way. 😆
