Enji - Lava Tears

My previous post I mentioned I was kind of in an art funk because it gave me troubles rendering/colour choices. But this one? THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE! I was very much in the art zone while doing this art.
So I wanted to share not just the sketches, but the references and the mood-board I created! I was also listening to the song 'Phoenix' by the Fall Out boys on repeat cause it has that 'Enji' vibe to it that just worked so well with this artwork *chefs kiss*
Original the idea for it came about when I was on tiktok and saw someone drawing a horse with 'breath' coming from it's nose (you can see it on my mood board!) the mental image it conjured for me was of Enji in blue and orange 'fire' coming from his mouth. So I experimented with some sketches, and some colour combos for it (using photography I found on pinterest), ended up liking the idea of fire from his eyes (since we've seen him have fire lazer eyes in the manga) so off I ran with this idea and here is the final result.
It was refreshing to not have to worry about colour choices too much, and I revisited using only the pencil brush for sketch, lineart and rendering (last time I did this was the Hawks Motorbike artwork) and I find it kinda nice to work with!

So much that I made it my lock screen on my ipad (i never have any of my solo enji artworks as my lock screens but this baby is special!)
