Personal Work - Artist Alley Roombox more WIP~
Added 2022-01-12 08:25:26 +0000 UTCHey all~ Just wanted to check in and let everyone know I'm alive :) I've basically tumbled headfirst into complete burnout and have barely picked up a stylus since December, so I was definitely overdue for a vacation.
But I still feel the desire to MAKE STUFF so I've been noodling away at this Artist Alley roombox I started in November; I shared the art for it over here https://www.patreon.com/posts/personal-work-58714457 and it's been really fun and refreshing to work on. I love the art I get to do for Patreon but the constant need to complete it on time has affected my relationship with it, so it's nice to do something with absolutely no deadline and feel my old work ethic come back :)
The first pic is from November, the next 4 pics are from the 5th of January, and the rest are from today; the flooring isn't final and will be a little more chromatic, hopefully printed on canvas to give it texture. I wibbled on whether I wanted to crowdsource the art show pieces to include other artists, but settled on painting them by hand; that way they wouldn't look so much like my other work since it's mediums I almost never use. Still looking for the right fabric for Sweetsie's table cloth ;w;
If anyone gets thru these to the last pic, let me know your opinion about the wall color! I'm real fuckin bad at interior design ;o; It's supposed to be the hallway between ballrooms at a hotel/convention center in an out-of-time 90s/10s combo, so I feel like white is more 90s and gray is more modern... Initially I was gonna go white but worry it might pull the eye outward to the edges of the room if it's too light... Or maybe it'll do the opposite and pop everything... OOF I can't decide orz
Will probably take a break on it this week and see if I'm able to pick up TVB again; I opened the pages at the end of December and just couldn't get anything done. Not sure if I've given myself enough time yet, but I won't know until I try!

love this! without any research done, in my brain/memory convention hall walls are sort of beige...unless you're at the George R Brown Convention center, then they're like...concrete.

These miniatures almost freak me out a little cause it’s so hard for my brain to fathom how they are done and look so accurate and real 😂 Reaper please take another month or two if you need it, you work harder than any other Patreon I follow/pay for, and your work is so high quality. Heck if you want to keep showing us your miniature journey while resting I don’t think anyone is going to complain. Also , Blood Covenant would be a bomb ass comic, love me some demons haha!

I love the water bottle + coffee cups. Somebody needs to have a takeout container there too ;^0 PS I make a lot of tiny dioramas and stuff myself so thank you for sharing!!

I feel no con is complete without The Beige Wall, or those weird stretchy accordion walls, so I'm going for the far right stick! :3 This is incredibly cute, and thank you so much for the progress pics! I hope it's super heckin' fun to do, and helps ya destress (even if it's causing a lil of the fun stress lol). The tiny real world details like the coffee cups and water bottles and each artist's personalized storage made me shriek out loud, and all the miniature art!! Is SO incredible!!! I would spend so much money at this little con ;__; Also burnout is real, went through it real bad myself from work, and I feel you; hope you can take time for yourself and do more things you love.

I really do want “Blood Covenant” to be a real thing- even if it’s just a Patreon backed zine reward that’s never printed again. 💦 3. Peter would be the type of artist that looks nothing like what they create. 😂 4. Bottom of the right most popsicle stick in the image. That’s my choice or a light beige. It’s always one of those colors and a wildly dated patterned carpet. Lol. 5. To close, I am so glad you are able to take the time to recover. I can only imagine the pressure artists feel to constantly have to produce in order to “stay relevant.” It’s all bullshit and you need to create on your own timeline. Rest, recharge, and come back when you are ready. ✨

I love where it’s headed and am very invested to see where it ends up! If it’s 90s, there’s gonna be a YAOI paddle, right? 🤣 (Also super glad you’re taking some time for your burnout.)

Burn out is no joke! It's hard when you have a certain amount of content people expect from you, but I hope you'll be able to find find balance and maybe a more energy sustainable way to work in the future. Love the mini artist alley! I wish it was real so I could go pick up a copy of that blood covenant comic, it looks really good 😂

Might I suggest getting paper (or painting paper) the color of the different wall colors you have in mind and just putting it behind the piece before fully committing to give you an idea of the feel of each color? Just my two cents! Good luck and as everyone else said, take your time, we are here when you are ready!
