There's nothing wrong with writing detective/police stories, it's all fictional work with fictional characters that can be as honorable or scummy as you like. Personally detective mysteries are one of my favourite genre's. It's just stories, doesn't have to be a reflection on real world events if you don't want it to be.

I think the fact you said something and are speaking out says alot about where you stand. You arent in anyway idealizing or excusing police actions thru Esh's character. You also arent trivializing traumas of black and brown people. Your art is yours. You do what you want with it. But I think its healthy to address why we (creatives/storytellers) often put main characters/ protagonists in law enforcement roles.

Ditto'ing some of the above and here, my words: It IS fiction, and we all know what the world is now, but you're working with a world you're making, so do what you want/need to, m'friend. I'm loving it, even though I wanna smack Esh upside his fool head - that's part of the ride, I know this. I think you're doing a good job and it works. FWIW. *supportive hugs* <3

As for me the thought of there being police in the story didn't really cross my mind. Like this is more a story about 2 men with a lot of baggage and supernatural powers than a cop story.

Always nice to hear you support the movement! Also since this is a work of fiction that just happens to have law enforcement in it, I hope no one is upset, I cant imagine it being an issue since this is entirely supernatural fiction, but either way, keep up the good works, I'm invested.

What I’m trying to say more succinctly is: this isn’t a story commenting about whether or not the Police are just. It’s a story about two people trying to find a positive and healing connection amidst a lot of darkness and evil. That’s honorable storytelling.

At the end of the day, it’s fiction. And supernatural fiction at that. That Esh is a Police Officer is incidental to the progression of the story other than - he’s be involved in murder investigations. As creators, we’ve always written about things that aren’t always pretty as a means of exploring the push and pull between good and evil. It’s what we do as humans. I happen to be working on a novel series now for eight years that has a strong pandemic storyline introduced back in 2012. Now... with Covid a global threat, it’s been a struggle to complete the series knowing I’ve threaded a not so great theme into it. But here we are and I’m going to mention this in my forward: I had not intentions of capitalizing on tragedy but I owe it to my fans to see the story through as honestly to the art as I can. Things happen in the world that are deeply tragic. We can’t see them coming or predict what will arise as we write the words down for dramatic emphasis. I doubt anyone who really know you and your work will think anything but the best of you. The random haters can hate but an appropriate disclaimer somewhere in the finished work should be sufficient, I think. It is a work of human fiction. And humans are rarely perfect.

There are people who are police. That's just how the world works. It's an interesting story that happen to have one in it. It also has not a police. I cant imagine anyone taking offense, but you wont hear it from me. Keep up the good work

Thank you for saying something, your work is definitely an escape for me right now as a black woman and a nurse. I’ll only ever speak for myself and Esh being a cop doesn’t taint this story for me. In this world and ours, the worst monsters are human but as grim as this story gets, I believe it will be meaningfully. With time and radical persistence, we’ll bring change to our world as well.

Owwww it hurts so much ;______; And regarding that statement about the police, I feel you! I have some characters who are policemen and important figures in their respective stories. Heck I play an policeman in one of our PnP rounds but I don't feel comfortable at all playing him right now. Even if they are just fun, idealized versions of cops, it still feels wrong or as if I'm trivializing the matter. We're all so used to the good, honorable cop on TV that many of us non american, white folks often forget how severe the problem actually is. I learned a lot through the last few weeks and I'm also going to change things up with my cop OCs in the future. But anyways I love TVB and I love Esh, I followed your art and stories for years and I definitely know where you stand. I don't feel like your investigation related comics are hurting anyone but It's still really nice to know that you got the issues connected to the police in the back of your head and that you care!
