(Vote)Against piracy
Added 2021-03-06 05:11:01 +0000 UTCHello everyone, today I want to discuss with you the topic of piracy.
My war with pirates started in 2020 and continues to the present.
In the past, they would pirate one popular link, or two.
Now they always package and upload all the paid resources of a certain creator.
Maybe it was done by my competitor, maybe it was done by some boring person, I can't do anything about it.
So I want to take action.

The WORST thing you can do is to respond by making your content harder to acquire. The number 1 reason I leave a patreon creator is because they make me jump through crazy hoops to get paid content. Remember, pirating really isn't a big concern for you. The pirate uploader is already paying and the pirate downloaders aren't going to pay you anyways. Crazy3DModeler has a HORRIBLE process for making your get his content (and his models are getting increasingly uglier too) and it's the reason I left him. Don't make it harder on your paying patrons or you will notice a sharp decline in revenue.

2021-03-06 18:40:36 +0000 UTCThe ones who want to really support creators, don't do piracy. They want to support creators so they continue working in that supporters like. There's always mean people who try to do profit in some way.

2021-03-06 12:43:23 +0000 UTCI agree with the consensus here. Don’t waste your time and energy fighting a losing battle. By all means take precautions, but don’t hinder the experience of your paying audience. As a recent special member I’m here (and upgraded) because, like many here, I love the quality of your work - for me this is your USP. Focus on this, build your community, perhaps tap into people’s FOMO, offer more WIP, behind the scenes, future plans etc - this not only adds more value but you’re building a taller tower to raise above your competitors and the pirates.

2021-03-06 08:46:10 +0000 UTCTrue followers will always stay. Even if your material gets pirated and offered to us for free those of us who appreciate and know how hard it is to produce will stick around regardless. Dont know if this helps at all but as already mentioned the pirates will keep coming regardless, i dont see a way to stop it. Sorry

2021-03-06 07:20:10 +0000 UTCCant stop piracy. It’s a waste of energy and focus to try to do so. Keep building stuff that can’t be copied, like a great community. We will stay if we believe we get value for money.

2021-03-06 06:59:34 +0000 UTCAgreeing with everyone. Don't fight pirates, because you're then playing their game, and it's just going to hurt. All you can do is politely ask them to not do it. Don't go beyond that.

2021-03-06 06:58:07 +0000 UTCPlease don't fall in the same trap that large media companies did, and make your paying customers life harder and your product worse in an attempt to prevent someone who is never going to fork over the money anyways from pirating it. The quality of your work ist there. So instead make your product as easy to use as possible: publish a VAR, with included appearance preset and Legacy Look, so that all a customer needs to do is plop it into their AddonPackages folder and done. I know they can be a PITA to create, but it's a big value add. Pirates gone pirate.

2021-03-06 06:35:18 +0000 UTCTry telling them to stop first. If that doesn't work, then think about plan B.

2021-03-06 06:34:44 +0000 UTChonestly if billion dollar video game companies can't stop piracy there is little chance that you can do anything about. It does suck especially since you produce such great content and it's already really cheap to be a subscriber. But no amount of encryption will keep people from pirating it
