Fanart Tier - Extras

Here is a progression I put together to show a pretty simple process for illustration; I always try to keep things simple and not go overboard on polish, and sometimes it comes together, and sometimes it doesn't. I think the important thing is to get the right rough colors down as soon as possible, because if you don't figure that out early then you're just gonna waste a lot of time trying stuff later on and it will make the art seem stale since you keep reworking it so close to completion. I liked how this one came together and it happened pretty quickly, which happens to me maybe 10-20% of the time. I didn't explain step by step for this one since it's pretty straightforward, there aren't really any tricks to it. Just remember to work on layers :)

Bonus gif, hope it loads~

Thank you! I love it when artists post their art progression (hint: moar please!), and that gif looks amazing. I also just noticed that Will is wearing pants. For some reason I thought he was wearing shorts when I first saw this picture, and it wasn't until the gif finished loading that I realized it was just another strap around his thigh. Heehee. :P

Yeah haha definitely over 10; making this progression was actually a little bit of a cheat because it's not captured step by step, but rather, I just went through and turned on the layers; basically everytime I start a new "step" I make a new layer. It's so I can go back to an earlier point if I decide I don't like how things are going. I've lost a loooooot of artworks in the past due to computer failures so I'm really cautious about saving my work in as workable a state as possible~

Thanks! Faces/expressions are my favorite part to draw so I like to pay extra attention to them, I'm glad it comes through hehe~

I really love how you can make a big difference with little details - Hannibal's expression on the early sketch looks sort of melancholic, but when you tweaked the corner of his lips and eyes the whole mood just lifts up and suddenly he is very cocky and lustful. Great work again!

this is a wonderful step-by-step on how you break things down. How many layers did you use on this? Doing something like this would have rack up over 10 for me :O

If I don't struggle too much with it then I can finish one in 3-4 hours, usually. But if I struggle, like I keep redrawing/reworking the lines, or I get close to the end and the colors aren't working (usually those are my top two problems), then it'll take as much time as I need to either figure it out or settle with what I have. I try to take a lot of short breaks since I don't wanna get carpal tunnel but it's usually just like, reading some news or petting the cat for a few minutes, and maybe a longer break to go for a walk and clear my head if something is especially frustrating.

Hehe yeah it was partially about balance, he had this big belt on with tons of straps on the bottom and I wanted something up top too, so he would look more geared up. I don't know how much of it came through but the intent was that he's a wolf hunter so I wanted him to look like he had his stuff together a little and not entirely just like he grabbed his dad's guns and ran out in the woods lol. He still came out looking like a cupcake tho...

Oh, it's always nice to see the process. I notice you added the tit-belt thingey at the end. Last minute inspiration to make it kinkier and more balanced in blacks? :P

GIF looks great! Also, I gotta ask, how long does a two character piece like this generally take to produce from beginning to end? Do you take breaks or all in one go, generally speaking?

oh the process is great! thanks for sharing!
