They both started on the same week and every week after there was an ep of each show, T.O on Tuesdays and TVD on Thursdays if recall correctly. This way they don't have to hassle with all that and just watch the way it originally came out

Bonnie and Damon's decade dance scene was so notorious at the time that Ian (Damon's actor) said the producers told them to tone down the chemistry and basically kept their characters from interacting again for a long time after that because the show was supposed to be about damon x elena and elena x stefan, not bonnie x damon.

Every time the group needs something they always need bonnie’s help. Yes damon is like top 5 characters in the whole show/ universe but there’s wayyyyy more complex characters. I didn't really watch in any specific order but I did alternate between the two for a while. Ultimately I binged and finished TVD and then I went back to watching the originals, right from season 3. So whichever way you do it is fine for me
