They have a decade age gap between them and he was ready for things she wasn't ready for. Nikki, Ian, & Nina even took a group photo in 2017.. they stopped appearing together because of the toxic fandom and the constant disrespect and overstepping of boundaries.

Is it worth it to do absolutely any thing even betray every soul who has ever cared for you just because you want to escape death? Or is it better embracing death but at least stay true to yourself and never have to lose your self and let yourself care? Paranoia and fear of death destroyed Katherine to the point that nothing was left from her but an empty shell. Is this really surviving? At the same time we saw how Damon reacted in this episode. Damon saw the absolute terror in Rose’s eyes, he’s not stupid, he obviously was able to register the danger and seeing how much Rose was sacred of Klaus, that gave him enough ideas of what kind of vampire they’re dealing with but no matter how dangerous this man is, It will never stop Damon from protecting his loved ones. When Rose told him “I wish we could save Elena” with a very doubtful look on her face, Damon replied with a confident voice “and I will” that made Rose admire Damon for his bravery and loyalty. “Caring gets you dead, hun?” Damon is not afraid of death because he’s driven by love, he has already sacrificed himself for love when he went to rescue Katherine. That’s the internal difference between Damon and Katherine and the reason the relationship between them would’ve never ever worked out because at their core, they are very different people and they function on a completely different direction. Damon’s devotion to love is what helped him not to lose himself completely all those years and now it’s giving him the courage to face the strong and dangerous enemy like Klaus who got every body scared. This is Damon’s mentality,”caring gets you dead? so be it, as long as I make sure my loved ones are safe and happy” As we saw in the previous episode. Damon would put the happiness and wellbeing of his loved ones above his own, he just simply can’t be selfish with them. “BECAUSE I love you I can’t be selfish with you,…, I don’t deserve you but my brother does” putting the happiness of both Stefan and Elena above his own. Katherine: “don’t try to be a hero Damon, you’re gonna end up dead” Damon:”being there, done that, at least this time it would be worth it” Damon is driven by love but Katherine is driven by fear, she spend 500 years basically running away from her problems and essentially losing herself in the process.

There’s always a psychological reason for why they behave the certain way. Katherine is actually suffering from narcissistic/ dark empath personality disorder. This is what we consider the most dangerous personality disorder, even more than Anti social. They’re the master manipulators and they’re extremely well as reading people emotionally and psychologically, they’re so quick to find out your deepest insecurities and weaknesses and they know exactly how to use it against you and to their own advantage. Their victims usually will not even realise that they’ve been manipulated by them until it’s too late. This episode certainly gave us more background to Katherine’s story that would obviously make audiences gain some sympathy for her like what happened to her family was absolutely awful but also at the same time we got to see what kind of person Katherine was even as a human. She was still canning, manipulative and obviously selfish even back then and she just got worse obviously after going through all that hardships in her life. Katherine can use the excuse that every horrible thing she has done was just to survive all she wants but we saw that there are multiple things she has done that has nothing to do with surviving. She’s done it merely out of spite or just simply for fun like how she inserted herself in to the lives of two innocent brothers, abused them both in all different kind of ways, turned them against each other and finally started a war with the town that got them both killed. Or the fact that she chose Matt of all people to use to trigger Tyler’s werewolf gene. She could’ve chosen anybody else but she chose Matt on purpose who was close to Elena knowing if he died, Elena would suffer. None of this has anything to do with surviving, this is only coming from her sadistic nature that gives her joy to watch other people suffer.

Also Rose never wanted to turn Katherine. Vampire blood heals. So she wanted to heal Katherine. She didn’t know Katherine would choose to kill herself to be a vampire.

There is the OG face that got killed to cast the sun and moon spell > 1st reappearance of OG face was Katherine>Katherine is turned to vampire and is now useless because her blood is tainted by the vampire blood that turned her> 2nd reappearance of OG face is Elena who is still human therefore she needs to die. Katherine knows a lot of originals info so realistically speaking she gave up like nada. Very little info cuz there is a lot more to them. Katherine frames her vervain use stating it’s because Stefan caught her off guard in 1864 but I always think that because she knew Klaus was close to finding her she started using it because she knew they could compel other vampires.But for storytelling purposes of course she didn’t drop the full lore. Katherine I will say is incredibly smart strategist. If you pay attention you’ll notice she sits and waits for openings. And she predicts most favorable outcomes because she studies people. However Klaus and Elijah are older,faster and smarter and You’ll see that.

2025-11-16 16:48:32 +0000 UTCKlaus wants to use a human doppelganger to break the curse because according to Slater, if a vampire does it first, then the vampires get to walk in the sun with no rings, but the werewolves will still have to involuntarily turn on a full moon. If the werewolves break it, then vampires still wont be able to go out in the sun, and the werewolves will get to turn whenever they want to. Also Katherine is the first (or second) Petrova doppelganger I believe, there's not really anything special about them other than the fact that doppelgangers are really rare, so it's not like Klaus would have many other lines of doppelgangers to choose from to break the curse. That's why it was so suprising that Elena showed up because everyone thought Katherine's family line ended, and they didn't find any other doppelgangers in the meantime (which was like over 500 years later)

If vampires break it then the werewolves are stuck with the moon curse forever. According to trevor, the reason klaus may want to break the curse is to prevent the werewolves from breaking it and freeing themselves from the moon curse
