Damon started it yes, but when Mason decided to retaliate, he should have been prepared for what was to come….Stefan even warned it was 2v1. Fairs fair, in Damon and Stefan’s perspective, it’s necessary for mason to go lest he decides to do something wild again or get revenge during full moon

Because his character was only to introduce Tyler to world of werewolves (for now) by stepping in as dad/uncle type and truly teaching Tyler what it was and how to control it. Damon did what Damon does best.
