I wouldn't say the path Tosen took was wrong, justice is always perceived differently, and he thought what he was doing was justice. Especially when Soul Society showed no justice towards the murderer of his friend. Also, Aizen did kill Tosen but it's actually out of respect, Tosen asked Aizen to do so if he ever noticed he was straying back to the path of Soul Society and away from his justice. There would be no way Tosen would be allowed back into the Soul Society after everything nor Hueco Mundo, he'd be an outcast with no one, so Aizen mercy killed him out of actual respect, which is surprising for Aizen.

He was forced into the marriage and had a sadistic personality, so he treated her bad, that another shinigami stepped in. The helping one was killed and he killed her afterwards, by saying they were hitting upon each other and they attacked him when they found out. Tousen got the information about this incident directly from Tokinada, were he pretended to be just the another shinigami, which tried to stop the husband. He conviced Tousen to not to shed blood and in his sadistic manner, even Tousen wanted to stop, he threatens Tousen that he would killed him, if he tried to and released much reiatsu to terrify Tousen. Tousen saw this as provocation and attacked Tokinada, who crushed Tousen without problem. In the light novel "Can't Fear Your Own World 3" Tokinada has a big role, it's not written by Kubo but he helped with further information and approved it.
