2025-06-20 08:16:14 +0000 UTCYes this Election style was real and was called "The Thing (Ting)" or Althing and i believe Iceland still refers to their Parliament/Government as the Althing (Alþingi in Icelandic) and is said to be one of the oldest or the oldest Parliaments in the world (its contested with the Isle of Man in Britain). A lot of Germanic groups had elections rather than straight son to son succession, like the English or Anglo-Saxon Witan or "Witenagemot", like we see in The Last Kingdom,
