Gale's father died in the same explosion when he was 14. •After Katniss's Father death, her mother went into a deep depression and was unable to take care of her children. •Katniss looked like her Father, especially the black hair she inherited from him. Which is why her mother treats her younger sister differently. •The Age of Contestants for The Hunger Games starts at age 12. •Haymitch, a tribute from District 12,won the 50th Hunger Games at age 16. •Haymitch's victory made the Capitol and the game runners look foolish so President Snow had Haymitch's loved ones killed to remind the districts that the Capitol was still in power. •Due to the loss of his family, Haymitch struggled with grief, guilt, and alcoholism after the Games. •Katniss is 16 years old, Prim is 12, Gale is 18, Peeta is 16. •Peeta's father was in love with Katniss's mother, but she chose to marry her father instead, a coal miner with a beautiful singing voice. •Peeta's father pointed out Katniss to him on the first day of school. Peeta realized he was in love with her when he saw birds listening to her sing. •When Peeta was 11, he burned bread in his family's bakery to feed Katniss, who was starving. Peeta's mother beat him for this. •Katniss was out selling Prim's old baby clothes for money when Peeta had thrown her bread. •When Katniss was presented to Cinna, she was completely naked before him. •The servant girl that was tending to Katniss, Peeta & Hamitch is an Avox. An avox is a person who was found guilty of being a criminal, traitor, deserter, or a rebel — and had their tongue cut out as punishment. •Katniss and Gale while hunting out in the woods saw from afar the same Avox servant getting captured while the little boy with her was killed by a spear through him.
