CONTEXT: Mistress Ching is based on the real-life Chinese pirate Ching Shih/Cheng I Sao. She was described as history's most successful female pirate and one of the most successful pirates in history. Ching Shih became the ruler of one of the largest pirate fleets in history, and the mastermind behind a floating criminal empire so powerful that even the Chinese military couldn't stop it. Ching was sold into slavery/Prostitution at a very early age. Yet, every Captain that raided the boat that had her kidnapped would fall for her beauty. Until a Pirate Captain named Zheng Yi fell for her and took her as well. He then Married her, and made her his right hand in command. Her Husband died at age 46. She then took up her husband's fleet of Boats. She commanded over the famous Red Flag Fleet that consisted of over 1800 ships and 80 thousand male and female pirates. Under her rule, Chinese pirates became invincible, resisting attacks from every major naval power of her time. She had beaten all comers but also caused terror along the coast of southern China where thousands were robbed & murdered. She later on married Chang Pao, her late Husband's student and Lover, others say he was the adopted son. The imperial Chinese, British, and Portuguese navies could not bring Zheng Yi Sao down. So they offered her a pardon with her keeping a percentage of her fleet and a huge amount of money in which she invested & owned a gambling house. She had four children, 2 sons with her 1st husband & 1 son and 1 daughter with her 2nd Husband.
