2024-12-29 08:52:49 +0000 UTCJust to clarify, the Vikngs are speaking Old Norse, and the Saxons, such as the King and Aethelstan etc are speaking Old English. However, when they use modern English, that is normally for the characters who can speak both like Ragnar and Aethelstan, and it is to show us they can speak to both sides. But both Old Norse and Old English are related anyway, much like Spanish and French, so both the Vikings and Saxons would share similar sounding words/ phrases, which made it easier for them to learn each others languages
