Rhaenyra’s decision to ensure house Targaryen wouldn’t be wiped out by the war was a smart decision for reasons we see in GOT (Dany is her descendant). Although I get your point it does pose a risk butttt it’s better to take the risk than them all dying at dragon stone or in the war. Because if team black did lose, team green would have to kill her family so better safe than sorry

And if you remember when daemon took the dragon egg that was gonna go to viserys child Rhaenrya saves Otto and them from him and Otto has a look on his face because he didn’t expect Rhaenrya to be such a good leader which is needed for someone to take the throne. Which is why he’s a piece of crap as well he never really cared about the realm is was just power for him he just wants someone he can control that’s why he pushes alicent to marry viserys because it’s his blood that will be on the throne and he knew it will be an uproar because Rhaenrya is a woman which is why he was upset Aegon did what he did last episode because he can’t control him

They would’ve gone ahead with their plans whether Alicent’s misunderstanding happened or not. I doubt some of them even believe her, but it makes the usurping of the throne easier to justify.
