There are some Danes in the north who accepted Christianity while others still keep to their old faith. Guthred was taken as a child and became a slave after his father was killed.

2024-05-16 04:40:53 +0000 UTCSo Guthred is a Dane who's been chosen to be a Christian King of Cumbraland and unite the tribes of Dane and Saxon. And with Uhtred he couldn't really rescue his sister because she's being held hostage in a fortress and he doesn't have a big army to attack it yet. And I think he let Sven go because he probably wants Ragnar with him when they get their revenge.
