His brother is in Ireland and back then when someone left for a long period time you didn’t know if you would see them again. He couldn’t just wait for him to come back. He wants his home back. He can’t do it without an army. He did go to Ubbe first but he didn’t believe him. Now he’s trying to get support from Wessex to get his home back and he has to earn their trust first

When the whole world's against you, all you have is your name and what belongs to it. And the only thing Uhtred has to his name is Bebbanburg.
