It's my opinion that the events of timeline 1 happened because Arcadios opened the gate to go back and kill Zeref, not realizing that the dragons would see the portal, and just come on through. In theory, even if Arcadios was successful in killing Zeref in the past, the 10,000 dragons didn't give a shit about Zeref, or if he was alive, dead, or whatever. So, that timeline was the worst of all, because not only did they screw the future, they screwed the past, as well. What have we learned, class? DON'T FUCK WITH TIME!

The spell he used was a less lethal version of Altairis, the attack which killed Simon. It has gravitational push and pull like Gojo's Hollow Technique: Purple

Think of the timelines as alternate universes. 1st timeline: Future Lucy's timeline: dragons come through the eclipse gate and destroy everything and kill everyone. Lucy came to the past from only a few days later in her future, so she was only like a couple days older than current Lucy. This is the same timeline where everyone died and future Levy was recalling the events of the Grand Magic Games from. 2nd timeline: Future Rogue's timeline: Lucy, in his timeline, figured out that the dragons come through the eclipse gate like she did in this timeline, but in his timeline she actually manages to close the eclipse gate before any dragons come through, so nobody dies and the world doesn't immediately go to shit like in Future Lucy's timeline. However, 7 years after that happens, Acnologia rules the world in Rogue's timeline. This is the same timeline where Rogue killed Sting and became evil for reasons you don't know yet. 3rd timeline: current timeline: Future Lucy travels to the past from a couple days later in her future where everything is destroyed, and Future Rogue also travels to the past from a few years later in his future, but with the intent of deceiving the princess and tricking her into opening the eclipse gate, since he actually wants 10,000 dragons to come out of it so he can control all of them and become the Dragon King. However, since Lucy closes Eclipse before any dragons in his timeline, he knows she'll do the same here and hence tried to kill her (her present self at least), but fails. So basically Future Rogue and Future Lucy are from different futures, but come to one main future with different goals - Lucy wants to kill all the dragons/ensure that they die, while Rogue contrastingly wants the dragons to survive so he can control them.

Natsu had to be the one to catch her, because he is always there to catch her, no matter what. Happy flying by after sends me every time.
