This is an old reaction, but I LOVE this episode. Taking the witches from being pure evil to a bit more complicated opened up the lore. Especially with Satella. I think Subaru saw real decency in satella here and figured out she isn't all to blame.

My theory is that Satella is just and Emilia from a different universe where she suffered after seeing Subaru dead..so she squired power and became so powerful that she could transcend death and time.She then go back in time and grants the same power to Subaru. So he won't die. There are manny plot holes in this theory that don't make sense but that's what I as an individual Viewer understand. All she did was because she truly loves Subaru just as much as he loves her. But for her it took to much time to realize and when she did, Subaru wasn't there anymore.
