I don't think this fight was inconsistent with the series or "pof" bs haters like to use, but I do agree that it could've been done better - it was definitely extremely short, like Lyon vs Kagura was 3x longer I feel 💀 I only thought Laxus gave it his all cuz he looked extremely exhausted after that blow, even more so than after exchanging a couple of hits with freaking Hades of all people, plus he didn't even look slightly tired or worn out after obliterating all of Raven Tail, but here he actually looked like he was done lol, so that's high praise for Jura and yeah you're right, I still think Midnight was the most powerful wizard in terms of he had more winning capability, but in terms of destructive pure raw power attacks Brain and Zero are definitely at the top (of Oracion Seis)

2023-12-14 11:46:57 +0000 UTCI get what you mean, even if he can't take the hit he still could've blocked it with his extremely strong defense magic, but I do guess that attack from Laxus came pretty out of nowhere, plus lightning kinda = speed buff, and we haven't seen Jura showcase much agility/evasive speed/reaction time so that's why I personally wasn't bothered by it I do like your theory though, and everyone can apply their own headcanon since a lot's left up to interpretation! Jura was rooting for Fairy Tail and is fond of them so I can see your theory being true

2023-12-14 11:45:21 +0000 UTCAppreciate your opininon. But again agree to disagree. First of all Brain was stronger than midnight in terms of pure fire-power in my eyes. Midnight at the time of that arc used illusions and other gimmicks to make people think they couldn't damage him. He had no actual strong attacks himself, unlike Brain who had been a part of magical development and made a bunch of spells numerous of which were very destructive. Second Jura absolutely clapped the god-slayer lightning user in front of Laxus's eyes. Third, we know Jura had a magic-power-scale rating similar to Gildarts (according to Makarov) and one way higher than anyone else who participated at that time (except for Cana who used an ultimate spell). Fourth; here we actually agree. Of course he isn't the most powerful human wizard, I mean freaking Zeref exists, like what? Gildarts would clap Jura with one arm behind his back. So ofc, master of Lamia scale is definetly smoking. Five: I wasn't surprised Laxus beat him, the author and a big part of the fandom is absolutely in love with Laxus. He will consistently be portrayed as over-powered. (just like Erza). Not critisicm, just why It didnt surprise me. I love both characters. But they are both two characters that have some fights I think could have been done better. (they also have some of the best fights in the show) I would never imagine Mashima would let him lose lol. I was just dissapointed that they let him beat Jura in essentially 5 minutes of screentime with like 5 swings back and forth. The fight was really quick and unsatisfying. Jura was essentially the boss fight with Minerva, yet Minerva's fight was way longer and cooler. Six: I don't think Laxus really gave it everything, feel like he could have gone more beyond. And while I agree with "we'll see in the next few arcs how insane Laxus is". That's after more time passes, and he goes through more growth. Laxus is 100% stronger than Jura in the show, I just think the point of him bypassing felt too soon and too easy. I would have liked to see it earnt more. Basically, I would have liked to see a more back and forth fight where Laxus had to learn something new about himself, or do something new to beat Jura and grow. I didn't feel like we got that. Sorry for making this so long, fun to discuss though :(

And yes, Laxus has insane firepower, so if he does let himself get hit, it's not gonna be easy getting back up. However, the fact that it kind of seemed like Jura just let it happen / did a classic "underestimating your opponent" move, kind of is what annoyed me. Though it makes sense that Jura always wanted FT to win.

Made me happy to see some people do believe he might actually clutch it up though, makes it more fun. But ye, I definetly thought Sting wouldn't rly win, but surrender caught me off guard a little.

I mean yeah Sting surrendered and that caught me off guard, but I still thought we'd win even if they all fought Gray wasn't really injured, he took quite a thrashing from Rufus but that was about it. Erza and Laxus are really the only people who were EXTREMELY done out, but we still had the other 3. Gajeel didn't really take too many hits at all, Juvia took like no damage whatsoever (Im sorry I like you Juvia but you did nearly fucking nothing this day 😭) so I don't know why this was so unbelievable for Hisui even if they all went at it and mentally Sting was alright, I don't think he could actually win, Gajeel just clapped Rogue and Sting's strength is pretty much equal as his, plus I wouldn't underestimate Gray especially if Juvia's around cuz yk ice and water

Laxus hit him point blank with his strongest attack and we know how powerful Laxus' attacks are but more importantly- Jura didn't block it. There's not really any getting up from Laxus' hits, Jura's always blocked attacks with his magic stone pillar stuff but if he gets hit by it I'd assume he's done, he just doesn't have that endurance like Erza and Natsu do; Natsu and Gajeel took like half an episode's worth of ass whooping from Sting's Dragon Force and then just got up and walked it off. Erza literally got her leg crushed but still fought and defeated Minerva, Sabretooth's strongest wizard- they all have mad endurance, the ability to get hit by an attack and take it without any blocks. We've never seen Jura showcase that ability - he usually blocked attacks Laxus, on the other hand, has a fuckton of endurance. At the beginning of the show he just ate up Natsu and Gajeel's combo attacks, no defense or nothing. Keep in mind Laxus was somewhere close to Hades' level. Definitely don't think he at the time could beat Hades, Hades was insanely powerful and yknow we only beat him cuz of that stuff with his heart, but Laxus just takes really few L's in this show am I looking too deep into this? yeah probably

2023-12-13 12:42:55 +0000 UTCagree to disagree, laxus has always been insanely strong, and jura was really powerful before the timeskip, but him destroying brain is kind of the only feat of his that we have to go off of. it was a phenomenal battle but midnight was stronger than brain whom Erza defeated, so is it that reliable of a feat? it's just my opinion and theory but I don't think Jura's anywhere near how powerful the master of lamia scale made him out to be, "most powerful human wizard" my ass 💀 full respect to him i love him and all and i don't care much for powerscaling, but i wasn't extremely surprised by laxus beating him i also like how jura wasn't just some piece of cake for laxus, laxus literally gave it everything he had in the tank to defeat him, and this is laxus talking. we'll see in the next few arcs how insane laxus is 👀

2023-12-13 01:14:48 +0000 UTCI've been holding my tongue for spoilers. But now I can finally say it. Laxus V Jura was the first fight I didn't like in the show. It just felt too early for Laxus to be beating the "5th strongest wizard". Especially with how they had hyped Jura up before that. I feel like Jura partly wanted Fairy Tail to win, he even said something like that early on. So, I like to think he kind of gave up easier than he would have if not. The idea that already at this point in the story Laxus is stronger than Jura is just doing Jura so dirty.
