2023-10-22 15:18:23 +0000 UTCThe Brainwashing was completely anime original, in the novel Vassago the polyglot was simply so convincing and charismatic and such a skilled manipulator that knew exactly what to tell to people that half of them still believed him. The anime left out and dumbed down a number of pieces to his story. He was born to a prostitute who was forced by his father to have him specifically to use him as a organ storage. In exchange for giving his kidney he asked to be brought to Japan to start over his life and his “father” did do that but once he was there, he just was abandoned there. Due to how tight immigration law is in Japan, Vassago couldn't legally stay in the country, and so, he fell in with a Korean crime syndicate. They provided him with forged documents in exchange for training him as a hitman and having him do "jobs" for them. His 10th task was to take out someone through indirect means, who couldn't be touched IRL, but who was trapped in SAO. He didn’t just randomly steal a Nerve Gear to kill some Japanese, in fact you can’t do that, you need an already registered IP and NerveGear to log in after the launch. He was on a job and he was provided with the NerveGear and an IP that was already registered for SAO so he could log in after everyone else. Also he naturally started in starting gear, he wasn’t rocking his iconic outfit from the start.
