Author's Update

Hello everyone! I wanted to provide a quick update. First, thank you all for your continued support. I managed to get more writing and planning done over break than anticipated, so I'll be resuming regular posts next Thursday (tomorrow) rather than this weekend.

I'd also like to share a general roadmap for where the story is heading. While I'll avoid specific spoilers, if you prefer to go in completely blind, you may want to stop reading here.

The Story's Structure

I've conceived this story as a medical mystery. I wanted to explore this through the LitRPG/Progression Fantasy lens, as the genre doesn't often feature healer-focused narratives. The core concept involved adapting a known Earth disease to affect the inhabitants of the mining camp. That was the plan... However, while trying to avoid an info dump and have things unveiled more organically, building out the world and its mechanics took longer than initially planned. The story became two parts (or arcs).

Part One: Foundation

We're currently in the first half of Part One, which has focused on character introductions, world-building, and skill development. We are now approaching a shift toward a story with more action and drama (both medical and non-medical). Though Daniel still has a few tough trials ahead, this phase is winding down. Overall, this part will likely run 175-200k words and should have a satisfying conclusion.

Part Two: The Mystery

The second part unveils the central medical mystery. I've been weaving subtle hints throughout Part One, with more to come. This section will likely run 100-200k words, followed by a shorter wrap-up. For the medical minds among you: bonus points if you can diagnose the disease when more symptoms appear!

As always, thank you for your support. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Comments

Thanks for the update and general direction you're taking things. I like the premise and world building but it did seem like things were getting a bit stuck in the figurative mud of the world building.
