Gameplay recommendation for this dungeon

Whatever creatures live here, they are perfectly adapted to life in caves and know how to use their surroundings. Torment your players with attacks from the holes to be found here, pull them into the darkness and let them crawl in panik through tunnels and let them out at other places on the map. But not every hole has to contain an opponent. But a growing paranoia will draw your players' attention more and more to the holes until they are no longer prepared for attacks from other directions (from the ceiling, from the water, buried in the ground or hidden in the mushrooms).

Possible effects of the mushrooms

Think about the random effects of consuming mushrooms and excessive inhalation of their vapors before starting the game. This makes this dungeon an absolute horror trip. (Example: https://www.dndspeak.com/2020/08/19/100-mushrooms-and-their-effects/ )

My personal favorite: Mushrooms that initially have a strong healing effect but at the same time have great addictive potential. With each new fungus the healing decreases, the sensation dulled (no pain sensation) and halocinations set in. In the final stage, the addict becomes a pain-insensitive berseker who attacks everything that moves.
