Shizuka, marina, and azuma all aren't villains or bad people, inherently. But each of their circumstance leads them to harm others in the way they themselves were harmed. He probably thought he was just stressing out over actual kid worries like his grades and their overbearing mom, instead of something insane like covering up a murder lol. Also I interpreted the pancake part as just Junya trying to take off the burden of expectations and wanting to please their mother from Naoki. I took it as him more trying to say that his brother is worth more than that, that those pancakes were never worth chasing after, and he's already great as is with trying his best at school.

I’m in agreement, Sam. The art direction of this series is really good. The moment between Azuma and Junya was wonderfully crafted.
