Honestly to me it seemed like knuckleduster having koichi and pop step help him out was a means to an end. He doesn't have that need to be a hero or save people like koichi does. He just wanted to bring his daughter home and with that mission achieved theres no need for him to stick around honestly. Which I feel like is what leaving the knuckles behind symbolizes. "My job here is done and I'm leaving the rest to you". Also to add I don't think koichi really needs a weapon. He could train with ingenium and practicing on enhancing his quirk and getting faster and properly learning how to fly.
