i hope we get the iroha special episode before season 3. It doesn't really make sense to watch it afterwards. it think it added the final bit of depth that was missing from their relationship.

Francisco Torres

I forgot how much of a slow burner this was. I don't know why I thought this was the pinnacle for romance genre at the time. Still loved it, waited years for season 3. Worth the wait

That’s not what I’m talking about lol. As I said in the previous comment, you don’t need to make the characters speak in riddles to give them depth. Well written characters and relationships will naturally be deep and will naturally make you think, absurdly cryptic dialogue is a cheap way to achieve that, just as “trying to sound smarter than you are using big words”. As I said, there are plenty other romcoms that are deeper and more meaningful than this with characters that speak like actual human beings.

👏

Now imagine having to wait 5 years after that ending I did LMAO

Feels like people want romance to be bubbly and on the nose and I get that for an anime ppl want to quickly binge through, but in reality it’s often confusing and really makes you think about yourself and the people around you. I think that’s what the author is trying to capture.

Brandon

I don’t know how the novels are written, but you don’t need to make the characters speak in riddles to give them depth, there are plenty romcoms where the characters speak like humans and still manage to be way deeper than Oregairu’s cast.

I give you a medal🏅. 👏👏

I 100% agree. Everything is spoken in subtext and it gets exhausting trying to pry meaning from every sentence. Just because something has thematic depth doesn't mean its automatically good and the author bears some responsibility to ensure someone who is actively listening can mostly understand. Not to mention, past season 1, the show adopts this melodramatic tone which makes everything feel like the world is ending all the time which is also exhausting. Season 1 is one of my favourite singular seasons of anime. The rest is alright. But very overrated.

Aritome

I get what you are saying but I think the show being cryptic sort of forces you to dig deep into the characters and what they are saying not to mention I think the way the novel is written affects the anime convos

The Reuben's comment already said it all but I would only add that Haruno is probably the one that knows Yukino the best, and knows that she's not taking decisions by herself but to comply with Hikki and Yui, that's why she's intruding herself in ther realtionship. It is a weird way to look-out for her sister.

Rodrigo García

That was perfectly said!

Honestly this is why I don’t regard Oregairu as one of the best romcoms out there. This show is WAY more cryptic that it needs to be for absolutely no reason. The feelings and actions of the characters are pretty realistic, but the way they talk it’s really not. It feels like someone trying very hard to sound smarter than they are by talking philosophically. I still kinda of enjoyed the show, but that’s my opinion.

MrGiamMY999

Wow damn… so well said couldn’t even have said it any better way

LR

Perfectly said

I wrote this comment on the Youtube video but I'll put it here too. Its easy to be confused by whats going because of how cryptic everyone is 😂 Basically to put the cards on the table, both girls like Hachiman, and are aware of the other liking him. Also Hachiman is fully aware of both girls liking him too. The girls just don't know how he feels about them, so in the end its all gonna come down to his choice. That's why no one is being direct about it and remaining cryptic.. cos they still don't want to be the one to put how they feel on the table that can't be taken back. What does that have to do with being the winner of the bet? The winner of the bet gets to say what they want and the others will just have to accept it. I think this is their ultimate cowardly way of making it fair. Yukino's greatest wish is proving herself to her family by making decisions for herself. She's trying to build a foundation for herself for the future. Which is great and all.. but school doesn't last forever and more than likely friendships in school don't last forever. If she's gonna be focusing on her family issues and future, she'll most likely have to give up on furthering any romance relationship progress with Hachiman. Yui's wish is to "have it all." She wants Hachiman for herself while also having Yukino as her close friend. Yui was basically forcing a ultimatum. She was pretty much saying to Yukino, "ok yeea you can go off and deal with your family problems.. but that's your own stuff. You going off will give me free game to fulfill my wish by moving in on Hachiman and you'll just have to accept it. You're fine with that, right?" Yukino was stuck between the two things she wants and tearfully was just going to accept Yui's proposal to give up on Hachiman. Hachiman put a stop to it because its not genuine. If Yukino's personal wish is to make her own decisions, this is wrong. Yui is forcing a decision onto her that she may or may not truly want. That's what Hachiman meant by "Yukino should solve her own problems." In the end the romance conflict and Yukino family conflict is what's left to deal with. But we can't solve the romance until Yukino deals with her family stuff first.
