This is very late so you may not see this but collecting and being interested in bugs is a hobby and it's actually a lot more normalized than many cultures compared to western ones where we would see that as gross and weird. Beetles in particular have many interesting designs and it's common to take interest in them in Japan. But it could be seen as boyish/tomboyish and also a bit immature. Definitely not something you'd expect an adult living in Tokyo to still be interested in. But a young girl living in some rural village thinking beetles are neat? Totally normal lol
