When Akane takes Aqua to the Director's house, and he says "I thought for sure that..." - what he was actually thinking was that he always assumed Aqua would end up with Kana Arima. It ties into how Aqua doesn't really reciprocate with Akane as much as he should, because it's implied he actually has feelings for Kana even if he can't admit that to himself. That's why earlier in the episode when he's asked to picture happy thoughts/memories and Akane is only in one of them while Kana is in most of them.

I think that is mostly the reason people were so quick to label him as just another generic "edgy character", because we didn't had enough substance on what he felt and how he was dealing with his trauma. Also glad you are commenting on the incrideble animation this early (many reactors just talk about the most striking moments), but those details you guys mentioned are also on point. This season's animation is simply phenomenal! Can't wait for the next wave of episodes 😁

2025-01-03 01:07:03 +0000 UTCWhen thinking about things that made him happy, Aqua thought of the members of the reality show he was on with Akane and Mem cho, he thought about Kana, and he thought about Ruby. I think that says a lot about his character and his trauma that he wasn't even aware those people were making him happy, but as soon as he focused on it, his trauma made him physically ill. Extremely sad.
