It was more like “I love..” not “I love you.” Which is why Miyamura still doesnt think that Hori loves him because she cut him off right before he was probably about to actually say “I love you.” Basically he got cut off because Hori thought that he was just going to say “I love your hands” again.

2024-11-05 02:46:05 +0000 UTCWith the hand scene, because Japanese is very contextual, Miya didn’t necessarily say “I love ‘you’”, it was more like just “I love…” So contextually it could be interpreted as him referring to the hands still, which is why Hori said that she heard him. But the subs are also translating his intention which was him actually saying that he loves her. And it’s the same when Hori first says “I love you” while holding his hand, there’s no “you” signifier, so it’s not a stretch to think she was talking about his hands, when in reality she was talking about him too. That’s also why they paired the scene with the fight with Taru because neither Miya nor Hori believe that the other is also in love with them. The episode confused the hell out of me until I learned that. Coupled with the fact that they’re flying through the source material so it’s hard to know how much time has been passing.
