It'd be weird if I were defending the actions I've yet to see anyone in good faith make an argument that what Rudy did was okay. I'm just not self-righteous enough to attack people for understanding that it's a fictional story & that he's rightfully portrayed as a weirdo by the author. Whether it's done by the protagonist or antagonist is completely irrelevant; the fact that it's in the anime/ manga is the issue. In what world is something tolerated only when it's done by a deplorable person? Lmao Did yall really just make that argument? Does the industry have a pedo problem? But I guarantee you most people outside the anime community would find you a major weirdo if you said you watched something with a pedo protag... And like the others said in most of those examples its done by a clear villain that are very clearly despicable degenerates (except my dress up and Oshi no ko, both of which are also garbage). His plan with Sylphi is weird & unhinged but that was before he reconciled with his trauma. Main thing I really fault him for is ironically Eris who’s the most independent & head strong of the main cast. Whether it was when she was asleep in the barn or the final ep of S1 he was undoubtedly wrong & deserves no sympathy in either scenes.

Yes, Roxy is legally/mentally an adult, but she has the body of a prepubescent girl, to which Rudy explicitly says “I’m the kind of man to appreciate that”. Sylphie is indeed the least problematic of his love interests, but you also have to remember that he planned on grooming her to be his “ideal wife” from when she was like 6. Even though that never came to pass, it would have if fate hadn’t intervened. Rudy’s trauma absolutely explains his stunted emotional state and maturity, but I think it’s going too far to say that he’s still mentally a kid. That kind of excuse is something the real-life “minor-attracted-people” (please note my derision at the term) claim to justify their perversion, and it’s just as ridiculous here as it is in reality.

He does 1 questionable things but pays the price for it immediately. & he has the hots for his 40 year old teacher. Only S1 is like this & the entire story spans his entire life from birth to death so they’re only kids in S1.

The characters, world-building, animation, and plot are all top tier, but you have to accept the fact that the main character is simply a despicable human being. Even though his journey of self-improvement is amazing, it doesn’t change the fact that he was a pedophile and sexually assaults/harasses underage (or loli-esque) female characters. Getting through that part of the anime to reach the growth afterwards is a big hurdle, and I don’t fault anyone who isn’t willing to stomach it
