2024-08-25 15:52:00 +0000 UTCJust to clarify, that was just start of their last mission, their mission was to explore the unexplored Legion territory, they're not escaping, they're continuing the mission until they die that's why Lena was crying cause they decided to continue even after she saved them. She's not sad cause they're leaving, she's sad they still are continuing their journey to die.

First of all, Shin's brother in the legion robot IS ACTUALLY him, the robot just enhances his feelings to an extreme making it seem like he has become corrupted but in all reality he hasn't, it is still fully him. You see this because he orders all legion to stay away from Shin and even shoots one of the Legion when it tried to hurt Shin. Shin explained before that the black sheep are when the legion take a brain, more specifically an injured/damaged brain. However, he proceeds to explain that when the Legion manage to take a fully healthy and undamaged brain, that is when the Shepherds are created. They don't have much info on shepherds because they don't encounter them very often. The reason they only showed that choke scene whenever Shin remembered his brother is because that one moment stuck with Shin forever and it basically made him think that his brother hated him, it made him just completely forget all the good memories he had with his brother. Shin's brother on the other hand though, he always remembered the good memories and wanted to always hold Shin's hand to protect him and knew that the one bad thing he did to Shin was horrible and wanted to find Shin to apologize to him and have Shin by his side again like the good old times.

That little battle was just the legion defending their territory and it just so happens that Shin's brother was in the defense unit. The mission they were given was to push all the way into the main Legion base and wipe all the legions out. So technically the can be free but they aren't free, they are just continuing the mission they were given. Also, that flower symbolizes death..

2024-08-24 22:51:41 +0000 UTCTo go along with the 5 birds, when Lena’s first tear hits the ground it explodes like the fireworks scene from a few episodes ago and when Shin tells her they are going on ahead there are 5 teardrops that come off of Lena before it transitions to the birds That flower usually symbolizes Death Reminder that the survivors have to continue on their mission no matter what, they had to keep moving forward into legion territory as part of the special recon orders, it’s a suicide mission if they went back to the base they would be killed by the Alba, that was just a battle they encountered at the start of the mission not the whole mission And in the reason we don’t see more memories is Shin said he couldn’t really remember anything from his family, Shin only remembers the bad when his brother “killed him” The putting his brother to rest and the moment he felt comfort from legion Rei triggered him to remember his brothers smiling face and good memories which is the clearing of the eyes scene and why he broke down

They're "free" in the same sense that people who jumped off a burning boat are free in the ocean. Shin could only remember his brother's anger at him, while Rei was focused on all the moments that Shin had obscured and wanted to apologize more than anything. The scene of Lena baiting Annette with Shin and pulling her off the porch to join her in the rain and darkness might be my favorite symbolism in the first episodes.
