They already mentioned the story behind the legion. The legion are from an old country that lost control of their own robots and the robots are now fighting an all out war against everyone. Those robots are the Legion

The moment they heard what it was they all prepared themselves and that is why they kept saying things about not telling Major Millize. This IS their FINAL mission. The mission says that they need to enter an enemy base and destroy it(btw, they have never attacked legion bases if you noticed. Typically they are only defending against the legion). Trying to destroy a legion base is basically suicide which is why it is saved as the unit’s final mission before the new 86 take their spots. So basically, whenever the alba military want to send new people to the unit then they just give the old unit this suicide mission to enter that legion base so that they all die. It’s like saying “alright you are fired because we are replacing you” but instead of just being fired, they send you to your 100% guaranteed death.

There is a brand as seen in the shower at 13:04, and you can guess it says something pretty heinous. Key reminder: only the Alba military knows about the 86 being sacrificed, and they think the war will be over in 2 years after the Legion have passed their operational time limit. The general public is ignorant and told the Juggernauts are "AI drones". Most of the people don't even know what the cost of keeping them safe really is, especially with the younger generation being taught over the last decade that the 86 are just "humanoid pigs".
