It makes one unable to recognize faces, while other aspects of visual processing are unaffected. -It's heavily implied that Meimei developed feelings for Lakan, but she also knew it was one-sided. -While not without blame, the old Madam housed and cared for Fengxian for years, expecting no profit, maybe out of guilt for forcing her into that situation in the first place. It's probable that the person who originally wanted to buy Fengxian was of high status, and once the pregnancy was discovered, the Verdigris House suffered the backlash, explaining why Fengxian was treated so harshly. -Lakan was told that Fengxian had died. The blame for the tragedy of Fengxian not being bought out sooner is shared. The old Madam, for believing no man would care for a diseased courtesan. Fengxian for her resentment of Lakan after being abandoned for 3 years. And Lakan himself for not doing the work of looking further into what really happened.

2024-07-06 16:06:55 +0000 UTCI will attempt to defend the "Old Lady" since I don't think she deserves all the hate. Yes, she's a greedy woman, but there's a degree of kindness in her. I feel like her brothel is a sanctuary where women can thrive in Imperial China. 1. She doesn't have full context like the viewer does. As far as she's concerned, this guy is a weirdo, knocked up one of her top girls & dipped, which caused the whole brothel to nearly close down. 2. In many episodes, we've seen the old Lady care about Maomao and her girls. She gives her girls much more autonomy than most brothels. (Remember, this is Imperial China, where women are objectified). When she was little, she raised Maomao with the other girls at the brothel until the Doctor took her. 3. I feel like the Brothel she runs, women can thrive here in Imperial China as a commoner. They get education, culture, money, and even retirement if lucky. Despite some feelings, they don't see Sex Work as a profession to be looked down upon. 4. Why did she let Fengxian take a streetwalker? Remember, Fengxian was already plan to be bought out. But she got pregnant despite that, and it led to the ruin of the brothel being nearly out of business. I imagine they all did what they had to do, and sadly, she picked up a disease. 5. I read the novel. There's a spoiler I will reframe. She's a person with history as well. As a sex worker all her life, then she owns her own business and runs it as she sees fit. In the end, I think she thought she was protecting them. She didn't kick her out and instead cared for her until the end of her life. <3 Hopefully, S2 show more of Madam.

I guess one more detail, that drug she's holding at the end of the episode is actually the gift she got Mid season, not the Ox bezor yet. Also it was atleast just the artist who was dodging taxes but at least no jail time, these are based off a light novel first so we are still all good on story lol

2024-07-06 15:31:13 +0000 UTCHonestly yeah, fuck that old lady. All she did was beat Lakan with a broom and tell him she was "gone". Then she only raised Maomao until Luomen came and got her. THEN she gave Maomao some ridiculous debt to be paid off.
