He sees himself as honorable and righteous but was quick to give in to Rhaenyra's whims and even deluded himself into thinking they would run off together. Once reality hit him he was quick to blame the princess and even scorn her behind her back. he's such a "nice guys finish last" kind of a douche. He's also a huge idiot who it comes to most things outside of battle which the show does good job at presenting in a comedic way. His first scene in this episode when he's just staring at the ground bc he knows he's in over his head as the hand is hilarious and also relatable lol

As soon as he decided to remarry and have children, especially sons. A war of succession was inevitable. I view the Dance of the Dragons as a tragedy.

Daemon, being more upfront about who is, might play a factor in why he is more likable. That's a fair take. But I think it simply boils down to Daemon being much cooler. He is a prince from House Targaryen who wields the Valyrian blade Dark Sister, and he also rides the fierce dragon Caraxes. Those factors alone make him much cooler than Cole.

The militaristic zealotry isnt really lost on anyone - and the man does know how to fight.. whatever (many) faults he might otherwise have. My moneys on Daemon.

The show throws in these subtle reminders that in this power struggle where exceptionally powerful nobles are doing whatever they want, it really is the common people who suffer the most consequences from their actions.
