Or maybe a new faction/group like you guys said? 🤔 Btw the reason I think Hector could have been a witch cult member is because the witch cult worship one specific witch, not all of the witches. Betelgeuse back in S1 mentioned it pretty frequently by the way he talked and the actions of them in this season kinda hint to them worshipping only one witch. The witch cult have no connection to any of the witches other than worshipping the one they worship. Echidna herself mentioned that there is no connection between herself, any of her fellow witches and the witch cult, I believe at one of the tea parties. I think but im not sure, that they probably worship the witch of Envy

I think that Echidna was probably looking elsewhere for a legitimate core but they were out of time because Hector appeared which forced them to have to use Ryuzu. Ryuzu volunteered knowing she could probably do it, Roswaal agreed but probably felt bad and wished they had some other plan. It looks to me like Roswaal was a very emotional young lad, toward everyone not just Echidna, and dedicated his life to the woman he loved. HOWEVER, he wasn’t strong enough,pathetically weak, and that probably began to change him. He started thinking that maybe emotions are what causes the weakness in him and it would be best to be emotionless BUT he couldn’t het rid of that aching love for Echidna and is frustrated with himself. He sees Subaru as his past self and thinks he is helping Subaru in trying to strengthen his resolve by forcing him to make very difficult decisions about who he should save(Which I personally think Subaru DOES need to learn that because I fear that in the future a time like that will come and it will be much much more difficult for him to overcome it because he has never had to do it before, he had echidna who was willing to make those decisions when the time came but rejected her help. Subaru will need to toughen up at some point and decide what group of people to save). That’s just what I think doe idk 🤷♂️

2024-04-09 16:21:13 +0000 UTCI mentioned it in the comments of ep 18 iirc,, but here we behold the ‘9th Deadly Sin’ (Note - as in the total amount of Deadly Sins there has been, not all at once) - Melancholy, which was at a later date, merged with Sloth. It was once an official Deadly Sin, but later it was seen as more of a symptom of Sloth and was fully merged, but again, the fact that Re Zero introduces these concepts makes it very interesting! Never really seen both Vainglory and Melancholy in shows that feature the Deadly Sins despite the fact that both were once considered deadly sins. And tidbit more here, Hector is referred to as ‘Devil of Melancholy’ here, I’m sure that’s somewhat accurate (or maybe it’s a translation issue), but much like how Pandora’s official title (in that it’s Witch of Vainglory instead of Vanity) was different when the author gave her title, so too is Hectors. Hectors official title is ‘Warlock of Melancholy’ - Warlock as in the male equivalent of a Witch, which is just another interesting bit of trivia with plenty of connotations… Still, hope you enjoyed the episode again! 2024-04-09 15:43:17 +0000 UTCAnother interesting thing is that if you notice how roswal interacts with Betty in the past, it’s very similar to how Subaru interacted with her.( the way they both like to annoy her but still care for her and how she responds to them in the typical tsundere way) Kinda cool to see that they are more alike than just how they push their ideals onto the women they love.
