When you thought they were showing "Mitty is still in there" - it's actually Riko they're showing. You can tell from the eyes. I assume that's how she looked as a foetus in the weird relic. The other eye that was looking in on her was Mitty's. I'm not really sure what the scene was metaphorically supposed to mean. Maybe two "monsters" in pain, feeling a connection?
