As Subaru just survived the mabeasts and instantly all the shit happens to him in the city, so having this chill moment is good to see before moving on. Although in the end it really doesn't matter that much. This is amazing to see after season 2 too as you understand Roswaal & Betty much better in this OVA.

The OVAs came out during the gap between S1 and S2, so I think the expectation was that most people have already seen the first season. Although you *could* watch OVA 1 after finishing Episode 11, it seems like most people wait (and I think they're correct for doing so).

He’s just basically saying that Subaru is putting himself in harm’s way to help her, it just has very confusing wording. It shows part of what is going through her head during the Royal Selection where they have their argument.
