The Japan's men's team hasnt been a power house compared to other countries, honestly not even on the radar, but they shocked the world last world cup by beating powerhouse countries while bluelock was a new anime. They became fan favorites and gained a lot of support from everyone and bluelock was referenced a lot to their success as a gag of course since there is no such thing. It was cool to see both the anime and Japan team gain so much popularity and be compared. Currently Japan's men team is playing really well and has become a strong team overall, they have had practice games and continue to shock people's expectations so this upcoming world cup qualifiers will be interesting to say the least.
