The way I saw the ending scene from episode 4, was more that gojo genuinely didn’t care if they killed them or not. He didn’t want to kill them or leave them alone. He was just honestly unsure of what the right thing to do would be at that moment. Even when he went back and fought toji, I don’t think that he did that because it was the right thing to do. He just felt like it. But he knew that he probably should care about whether or not he should’ve avenged riko. At that time, when gojo felt so detached from the situation, he asked geto, because geto is usually so righteous and confident when it comes to topics of morality and because he trusts him. Also the author, Akutami Gege, outright said that "gojo was using geto as a guideline for good and evil at that time" in the fanbook when someone specifically asked about that moment
