well i guess he was never actually going to hurt her his irritation from being schooled by his own words probably just flared. him pushing out of the way was probably instinct as she was a woman and it was supposedly a samurai's duty to protect shogun/women/children. he was just so confined by gender roles that it clouded his judgment and he couldnt see that Sagiri is all about that smoke.
