You're willing to suspend your disbelief in the case of Ellie being the first and only immune person, but you can't suspend it enough to believe that scientists are able to reverse-engineer her immunity? You're picking and choosing what you want to believe to justify Joel murdering people.

2023-03-23 00:09:36 +0000 UTC@Wyrx Ellie's immunity itself contradicts the mycologist's quote. The whole point is they didn't think it was possible, but holy shit it happened. All they need to do now is reproduce it. Killing her isn't a problem to them because the mutated cordyceps they planned to remove from her brain would have survived without her. That's the source of the vaccine.

Our technology has advanced but not so much us as a race. You keep bringing up quotes but a person being born immune is miracle. It’s just a plot devices used in stories. It’s not based in any realism because it would never happen.

She stays quiet throughout, and only shares trivia that won't spoil the experience for Morgan and Sam. Secondly I think the show had some flaws with the Ellie operation. If there is a chemical messenger in the brain, you'd look to harvest it through the spinal fluid. Im not sure I'd be cutting open and killing the only immune person we have without months/years of other trials. But the story needs to set up that horrible choice for Joel so that's how it plays out. Lastly, Joel did what any parent would do. He comes across as strange in the end, but no decent parent is setting up their 14 year old child to be sacrificed for a cure regardless of the stakes (that's some Biblical Abraham-level sacrifice lol). And like many parents, he's making choices for his child that he believes is right but will likely drive the child away.

Again they jumped to murder real fast, based on nothing The thing that has never happened ie Ellie that we and them have no data on is more unbelievable than what we know for def fact is impossible? We know it cannot be done, as per the mycologist quote before. Ellie being by chance immune by random mutation or such doesnt translate to the eqvivalent of her blood has healing Powers or something Which is about the level of the research quote unquote of the doctor in question.

The only magic is Ellie’s immunity, which you accept. Which is probably more unbelievable. If anything like this happened with a virus or fungus there is no cure or immunity.

Now if you talk real life. I don’t know anything about what species of fungus if any someone or all humans are immune to. I don’t know which some people might be more resistant against. Ellie being immune should also be zero. Regardless of how you try to explain it. If you were to say that, I would agree. However, we accept that as part of the story.
