Spoilers for this sequence from the game. In the game, Joel and Ellie goes to Bill to get a car and end up doing a combat sequence through the town he lives in, Frank has left him so it's just Bill. at the end you find a body of Frank after he hanged himself and there is a note to bill, telling him how Frank "hated his guts", having grown tired of Bill's ways, and how it was worth getting bit to get away from him. So pretty much the opposite of what they did in the show, but teaches Joel a similar lesson about being too controlling, the show showing him there can be happiness if you let someone in and loosen up and the game shows how bad it can get if you hold too tight.
