I would suggest trying to get the notion of these being traditional "zombies" out of your heads. These are simply Infected living people, not people that die and come back to life. As such if you do something to an Infected that would kill a normal person, it will die. And on the topic of the Infected biting people, they don't have a hunger for flesh or anything like that, they're just being controlled by the fungus that naturally wants to spread. Hope this helps paint the Infected in a new but also depressing light!!
