2021-07-25 17:55:42 +0000 UTCThere's a nice parallel between Thorfinn and Prince Canute. Thorfinn has grown op with nothing and fighting to survive, where as Canute grew up with wealth and servants. It comes across nicely in the show, with Thorfinn being dirty and rough, but capable and Canute being "Shiny", and somewhat "useless" in the situation surrounding him.

There were legendary Norse warriors that were considered to be incredibly strong and ferocious in battle. Known for being illogical and beastlike, but borderline unstoppable. One theory behind the berserker's rage was that they would ingest psychedelic mushrooms before battle. This, like much of the more intricate details of Norse history, is contested. But it is that idea that the author is referencing with Bjorn and his battle style.
