Update (8th August 2017)
Added 2017-08-08 12:40:33 +0000 UTCUnfortunately writing is on hold for a few days as after the last update my computer has seemingly died (i.e. it is stuck in an infinite loop of auto repair). I have been trying to fix it with every solution for the last two days, and I have tried everything, (including restore, refresh, recoveries, dos commands and fixes, and so on). Fortunately I have a laptop but until I can get the files from the old hdd and set up a new Word on the laptop everything is on hold.
I have bought a cable that should let me sort the former but I have to wait for it to arrive. After that I will try a completely new install of Windows to see if that gets things back up and running. If not, and it is the hdd that has failed, I will see about using the laptop to write on. Will take some time to get everything set back up, try to fix the main computer, and get all the files I need (I back up on the Cloud periodically, but I do not have everything that is most recent).
Will post another update when things are back online. Until then, everything is unfortunately on hold.
