Rocky Horror Picture Show - Full Reaction (READ THE DESCRIPTION)
Added 2025-10-09 22:00:00 +0000 UTCREAD BEFORE WATCHING
- The following content is half a century old, and therefore contains outdated terms for certain identities, as well as scenes that show some rather uncomfortable content
- I love this movie because of the nostalgia it holds, the comedic absurdity of it, and the undeniable importance it has to the history of Queer media.
- Without those aspects, this may not be as enjoyable of a viewing experience. Casper himself did NOT enjoy the movie. Despite that, I do think there are some fun bits that still make this worth sharing. Watch at your own risk, with all of this in mind!
Comments
The thing that makes RHPS worth watching is the live audience participation, or at least finding a version that includes the audience "callouts". Taken on its own it's a very important movie in Queer media, but it's not a good movie. What makes it iconic is the participation. There's just so much that doesn't get included and that makes the movie fall flat when you don't go see it live. It's not a movie to "watch" in the traditional sense--it's something you go see live with all the insane scripted chaos that accompanies it.

2025-11-16 00:47:38 +0000 UTCthis movie is weird as hell and I didn't enjoy it either but The Time Warp song is catchy as hell probably the only thing I liked from this movie

2025-11-02 02:20:52 +0000 UTCCan we get a Les Mis reaction where Mortius just info dumps to Casper about how and why it's so terrible?

2025-10-30 22:40:14 +0000 UTCI once explained the Time Warp as Brad and Janet being attacked by theatre kids, and I stand by that statement

2025-10-19 04:33:47 +0000 UTCTbh I didn’t like this movie the first time I watched it, back in high school. But it’s grown on me over the years. I love Tim Curry and the music is fun to sing along to. But I get where Casper is coming from. Still glad Mortius loved it and found community in it!

2025-10-13 03:37:09 +0000 UTCAs a 27 year old trans girl who discovered this movie in her early teens pre-figuring things out in 2010-11 (Yes I was around 12 when I first watched this). I honestly found it very helpfful in figuring out my identity. I also have to admit when fox did that tv remake with Laverne Cox as Frank. I honestly wasnt sure how to feel about that.

2025-10-10 22:46:08 +0000 UTCMortius! You did not stay for the end song? "Science Fiction/Double Feature Reprise" lyrics put a nice little bow on the insanity we just watched. Also I'm surprised that you didn't mention that this was a theater piece before being made a movie and becoming the cult classic that it is.

2025-10-10 21:43:45 +0000 UTCThis movie will always hold a special place in my heart. It isn't "good", but they don't pretend to be (I mean, they filmed this with no budget in 5 weeks!) But it will always be in my list of top movies of all times. I was introduced to it by my friends in America when I did my exchange year. So I was 16. And this movie will always be associated with the only year in my teens that I did not dread going to school. That year I met one of my closest friends (who really is more like a sister to me), I for the first time in my life had a whole group of people who loved theater and movies and art and music and storys just as much as I do, and for the first time I had friends who actually seemed to share interests and didn't make me feel like the weirdo. And in my mind Rocky Horror Picture Show will always be linked to that feeling. Also I always wanted to play Magenta, and - I'm a aware that's a weird one - I had a huge crush on Riff Raff. I have seen documentarys with Richard O'Brien, where he talked about how he wrote the musical and what it means to him and whatnot, and must say - eh, he doesn't do it for me. It's Riff Raff... until he get's into his last outfit, that look is just weird...

2025-10-10 13:28:45 +0000 UTCOk yeah he literally said that right off the bat lmao. I guess I’m just here to double down on that. Anyone who hasn’t seen Rocky Horror live. Do it!!!

2025-10-10 08:58:16 +0000 UTCI only just started watching the video, but I see in the description that Casper didn’t especially enjoy this movie. Honestly I get that, because I did NOT vibe with Rocky Horror at all the first time I saw it. Seeing it in a live theater with shadowcast, cosplay, callouts and audience interaction completely reshaped my opinion on it though. It was one of the most fun things I’ve ever done and I can’t wait to do it again. Casper, if you ever get the chance and it’s something you think you would be comfortable, I would highly recommend catching a live showing. I felt like I was missing something, and that’s what it was. IMO, Rocky Horror is better as an experience than simply a movie. Mortius literally might just say this in the video though so we’ll see lol

2025-10-10 08:56:15 +0000 UTCDidn’t he say that he took some inspiration from Tim Curry’s Frank N Furter when developing his voice for Astarion? Or did I imagine that? (Also not me literally playing Baldur’s Gate 3 while I’m watching this lol)
Lindsey
2025-10-10 08:50:18 +0000 UTCIs anyone else getting double audio from Casper right before Hot Patootie? Or was it just me?

2025-10-10 06:54:56 +0000 UTCThere is on YouTube a live version with audience. Although you will find the responses different, I'm UK and it's the UK audience responses. Has Kristian lavercomb as riff raff he holds the record of being the longest riff raff he did over 200 performances as riff raff. Features great British comedians taking turns as the narrator except for baby spice lol I've now seen it live with my daughter 3 times and yes we dress up each time

2025-10-10 02:46:42 +0000 UTCCasper saying "Astarion?" when Sweet Transvestite started was extra funny to me because Neil Newbon has said he has performed that song out at karaoke in his voice lol

2025-10-10 00:58:33 +0000 UTCI didn't expect a very valid Les Mis take in the Rocky Horror reaction. But you are seen. You are heard. And I look forward to future French Musical based crashouts.

2025-10-10 00:20:53 +0000 UTCRHPS has a very special place in my little queer heart. I first saw it on late night VH1 when I was like 12ish and it was eye-opening weirdness that I immediately loved. A lot of it is outdated and uncomfortable now, but the music and the beautifully unapologetic queerness of it still really bring me joy. One of the first things I ever did as an outing with coworkers when I moved to San Francisco was go to a midnight showing with a shadow cast of RHPS in the Castro. It was incredible and one of those moments where I really felt like I finally found a place that felt right. Plus I have the outstanding memory of dancing to the Time Warp at a Geekycon years ago with Nick Lang of Starkid fame and we both had the whole dance down. Talk about a core fandom memory.

2025-10-09 23:06:36 +0000 UTCFinally a reason to watch this all the way through, I've seen bits a pieces and a lot of my highschool friends have seen it and love it but I've never gotten the chance to sit down and watch the full thing Half forgot that time warp was in this, I couldn't help but dance the whole time and my six year old looked at me like I was crazy! #parentgoalsachieved

2025-10-09 22:37:47 +0000 UTCI love how hyped for this Mortius was. It really elevates the movie when the audience is happy. There are a few parts of this piece that I love, and a whole lot that I skip. I have true respect for RHPS as a whole, and how it's changed countless lives since it was first shown. Most importantly, bless Tim Curry. Mortius, please, we have to watch the two best Muppet movies, even if it's just exclusives for Patreon. Please.

2025-10-09 22:06:25 +0000 UTCOh boy. You can SEE the discomfort for Casper. I say this as someone who was a very young queer discovering herself when I first saw this. It's rough. But when I saw it in 2010 for the first time it was kinda eye opening. Much like a lot of John Waters movies they're REALLY uncomfortable to watch TODAY but damn if they don't matter to the art form. Like watching very old noir films from the 50's you get a sudden idea of where some techniques of modern cinema you love came from, WHILE ALSO having to deal with stereotypes and nasty charicatures at times. Historic art is important no matter how dated it can almost assuredly become.
