Personally disagree that Dipper Vs Manliness if purely filler and doesn't really do anything to add to the characterization. I'd say it definitely doesn't have it as evenly as a lot of episodes do, but Dipper struggling with his own identity isn't an uncommon theme in his character arc at all and it sort of helped lay the groundwork for that part of his character. Edit: Oh I forgot I also wanted to give my two cents as a trans guy over the episode and how it fits in with the headcanon that Dipper is a trans guy. Like I do agree with you that Mabel and Stan's behavior towards Dipper would be more meanspirited, I still genuinely love this episode and find it incredibly affirming with just that one little caveat. I think it's fair to have some negative feelings towards the episode with the headcanon in mind and won't fault you for feeling that way, but I find this episode incredibly relatable and in the end I really appreciated how Stan ended on a pretty affirming stance over Dipper sticking to his guts.
