a little note on the lack of the odysseus motif in odysseus: i never noticed that it wasn’t in it before, but now that casper says it, i realize that it’s not there. however, i think that works. it made me think of something that casper said while listening to the end of no longer you / beginning of monster for the first time. he called the odysseus “the man motif” and mentioned how now they have “the monster motif”. if you think of the odysseus as the man motif, it makes sense to not include it in odysseus the song because he has long his “abandoned” being just a man (ha). but when does the odysseus motif return in great prominence? in the finale song, sung by penelope. i think it’s neat that “odysseus, the man” returns musically in the ithaca saga during his wife’s declaration of her love for him then almost immediately we hear the just a man reprise.
